FLUENCY DISORDERS
Fluency disorders exist when there is an interruption in the rhythm or rate of speech that is characterized by hesitations, repetitions or prolongations of sounds, syllables, words or phrases that interferes with communication. Secondary or "struggle" behaviors may be present such as eye blink, head turn, tension in the neck or face etc.
The goal of intervention is to help return control of fluent speech production back to the speaker.

CHILDHOOD SPEECH AND LANGUAGE DISORDERS
An articulation disorder is characterized by difficulty forming and producing developmentally appropriate speech sounds.
A phonological disorder is displaying difficulty making developmentally appropriate speech sounds and a difficulty with ordering these sounds into words. Apraxia and dysarthria disorders may be present.
A receptive language disorder is characterized by a difficulty in understanding language.
An expressive language disorder may present itself with difficulty in one or more of the areas of syntax (grammar), semantics (vocabulary) and pragmatics (social language).
"Mrs. Walker helped me to say my name in two sessions. I couldn't say it and all other words with the k and g sounds. Now I can say my k and g sounds easily and people don't have to ask me to say my name again. Also, my brother doesn't tease me anymore." Katie (age 6)
